Get Fast Relief from Painful Ingrown Toenails
It seems fairly minor, but an ingrown toenail can be very painful — even the slightest pressure can lead to waves of pain. Here, we explore how we can relieve ingrown toenail pain quickly and easily.

How can a small piece of nail that’s growing into the flesh on the sides of your toe lead to so much pain? That is a question most people with ingrown toenails end up asking after dealing with the painful issue.

And there are a lot of people asking this question if you consider that ingrown toenails affect 20 out of every 100 people.

At LaSante Health Center, our team of multi-speciality providers includes podiatry experts who handle the many conditions that can affect feet and ankles.

Given that ingrown toenails affect 20% of the general population, it’s little wonder that we have a good deal of experience with this common condition, including how to relieve it quickly and easily.

Why are ingrown toenails so painful?

We want to begin this discussion with a brief explanation about why ingrown toenails can be so uncomfortable. When a piece of nail, usually from the big toe, digs into the flesh along the sides, it can lead to inflammation and often infection.

When a part of it is inflamed and/or infected, your body sends more blood into the area to deliver healing resources. Unfortunately, this uptick in blood flow can exacerbate the pain.

And putting an inflamed toe into socks and shoes can be highly uncomfortable, but unavoidable if you need to get somewhere.

Finding relief from painful ingrown toenails

As we already mentioned, the pain associated with ingrown toenails can be considerable, which makes finding relief a top priority. At our Brooklyn practice, we routinely help patients with ingrown toenails by performing a quick-and-easy procedure right here in our offices.

To start, we make you comfortable in the treatment room, and then we administer a local anesthetic. From there, we gently lift and remove the piece of toenail that’s digging into your flesh.

Once we remove the offending nail, we may also treat the nailbed so that new nail doesn't come in and create more issues with ingrown toenails.

If there's any infection, we may also prescribe antibiotics to make sure we thoroughly eliminate the infection.

Recovering from an ingrown toenail procedure

Once we remove or trim the problematic piece of offending toenail, you’re free to go. We suggest that you wear open-toed or roomy shoes to your appointment so you’re comfortable going home. In fact, you should wear these shoes for a week or two after the procedure to allow time for the area to heal.

As for bathing and keeping the site clean, we supply you with complete aftercare instructions that go over all of this.

While there’s some healing time afterward and perhaps some soreness during this period, most of our patients are thrilled to find that the real pain is gone. Furthermore, over-the-counter medications often easily address the residual soreness.

So, if you want quick and lasting relief from your ingrown toenail, please call our Brooklyn, New York, clinic at 718-487-9707, or use our online booking tool to set up an appointment. You can also visit our clinic during our hours of operation.
