All of your senses are important, but your vision is especially so, since it guides you through life, allowing you to see the world around you and navigate it more easily.
Of course, the clearer your vision, the easier it is to get around, but this isn’t the case for nearly half of Americans. More than 150 million Americans, to be more precise, have a refractive error that interferes with their ability to see clearly.
To ensure that you have access to excellent eye care, our multidisciplinary team at LaSante Health Center includes optometrists dedicated to improving your vision. From eye exams to eyeglasses and contact lenses, we have what you need to see your world more clearly.
Here, we review some signs that it’s time to take advantage of these services.
The most common refractive error is nearsightedness, or myopia, which interferes with your ability to see things at a distance. Instead, objects that are far away are blurry, and you need to get closer or squint to see them.
In the opposite direction, if you struggle to focus on things that are close to you, you likely have farsightedness, or hyperopia. This vision issue is likely hereditary if you’re under the age of 40.
Age-related vision loss, which is called presbyopia, can make reading text very tricky as you get older. Presbyopia is often worse in low light, such as reading a menu at a dark restaurant.
The final refractive error is astigmatism, a condition in which the shape of your eye affects your vision. Instead of being round, your corneas and lenses have more of an oval shape, which can lead to overall blurry vision, as well distorted vision.
There are no shortages of screens in our lives these days, and many patients are coming to see us with digital eye strain. Perhaps your eyes feel tired or screens have become blurry. Or the glare from the screens is starting to affect you. The good news is that we have solutions for these issues.
Another common problem that we help patients with is trouble seeing at night. For example, the city lights can have more of a glare than usual or there might be halos around the lights. As a result, you have more trouble distinguishing objects at night.
If you have unexplained headaches and your eyes feel strained, it’s a good idea to see one of our eye experts.
If you’re already wearing corrective lenses to improve your vision and they’re not working as well as they used to, it’s likely time to update your prescription.
The bottom line is that if there are any issues with your vision, we want you to come see us. With a comprehensive eye exam, we can figure out what’s happening with your vision and get you on the road to clearer eyesight.
